Ft Bliss was originally established in 1848 to protect American settlers from Indians and marauding bandits is one of the Army’s oldest posts. Throughout Ft. Bliss’ distinguished history, it has been an infantry post and a cavalry post. Currently, Ft. Bliss is the home of Air Defense Artillery and other diverse organizations. The Air Defense School at Ft. Bliss is responsible for air defense artillery training of U.S. and various allied nation soldiers. It’s also the home of several of the Army’s premier war fighting units – 32nd Army Air and Missile Defense Command and the 31st Air Defense Artillery Brigade among others. Ft. Bliss is also made up of numerous training and support commands. The 6th Air Defense Artillery Training Brigade, United States Army Sergeants Major Academy, and others. Ft. Bliss also plays a vital role in the largest American city on a U.S. international border. It contributes annually to the El Paso regional economy and routinely participates in a variety of community activities. |
